In this assignment we had to look at the population demographics of our county or area and then based on our findings suggest ways in which businesses can address cultural diversity. I live in Arizona, so based on this I will be presenting my analysis.

Part I
We will first look at the demographics of Arizona, based on which we will deduce how these demographics affect the organization and how the company should deal with it. In Arizona, majority of the people are white, who make up 83.3% of the population. This is followed by people of mixed races, such as African American, Black people, Hispanics, or Asian, however, the percentage of these races is considerably lower as compared to the majority residing in this area. Additionally, 86.2% of the entire population has studied in and completed high school, whereas 28% have completed their bachelors.
Only 8.4 % of the population are living with disabilities, however, 11.9% of the population do not have health insurance, under the age of 65 years. More than 50% of the labor force, inclusive of both genders equally is employed in the civil sector. 16.4% of the population are living in poverty on the other hand, which I feel is something that needs to be addressed.
These demographics significantly affect the culture of the place, such as majority of the food outlets offer cuisine that if preferred by the white people, whereas, there are very few eateries offering Mexican, Asian, or even pan Asian food. Even so, the sales being made by the restaurant sector are high, as can be seen in the table (Appendix I). There are 2.9 million housing units, and which offer impressive services for the people and since most of the residents earn over $51,000/- per annum, the educational and healthcare facilities being offered are also up to the mark.

Part II
The business that I am going to discuss in this assignment is an advertising agency who deals with different clients on a daily basis. I feel that since majority of the population is white people, the etiquettes they follow will not differ much, however, they should also follow the customs of the minorities in this case, which comprises of the Hispanics, Asians, Black People and African American. It should inculcate a culture of respect and equality, while giving each individual equal opportunities to learn and grow.
Many companies make this mistake, that the management tends to favor the race or sub-cast to which they belong. However, in order to create a culture that encourages and welcomes diversity, they will have to create a culture that enjoys respecting people with different backgrounds and experiences. For example, if in this firm, a Hispanic is hired, whereas, the majority of the people are from the white race, then he or she should be treated with respect and amicably, so that the transition period becomes easier. Additionally, his or her customs and traditions should be respected and celebrated, such as if an Indian were to join, then events like Diwali, and Holi should be celebrated, and he or she should be made to feel like they are part of the family. Such human resource policies need to be made that allow for such a culture to exist and flourish.
