  • On a new page, compose an email to a Canadian politician requesting a change in policy, opinion, or behavior.
  • Make sure to include in-text citations to all sources listed in Part A and an APA References page at the end of your assignment.
  • Also, see the lesson in Week 10 on email writing – remember, you will be graded on your format.
  • Between 250-300 words.

Be mindful of the following further grading criteria regarding purpose, audience, and tone:

  1. How has my purposechanged from one context to the next?
    1. Original purpose: compose a summary and argument in response to a request from my professor
    2. New purpose: convince a Member of Parliament to advocate for my point of view
  2. How has my genrechanged from one context to the next?
    1. Original genre: academic
    2. New genre: persuasive email
  3. Example focusing on organization
    1. Academic Piece: My professor expects the most important ideas to be in the summary followed by the main point of my argument (whether I agree or disagree).
    2. Letter to MP: There may be resistance to my point of view, so unlike with the academic piece, I should start with some evidence and reasoning before revealing my ultimate argument (i.e. main idea). That way, my MP won’t discard my letter without even reading my justification.
  4. How will the balance of logic, emotion, and credibility be impacted by my new purpose, audience, and genre?  Letter Writing代写
    1. Academic Piece: My professor expects evidence-based research, so the primary focus should be on logic, as well as credibility. Emotion should be limited.
    2. Letter to MP: Unlike with my professor, My MP would expect emotion, so I can rely on it more heavily than if I were writing for my professor. Logic and credibility are still important as well.
  5. How will my tone and language be impacted by my new purpose, audience, and genre?
    1. Academic: My professor would expect an objective, neutral tone. My language choices, therefore, should be as neutral as possible in terms of their connotations. Word choices should be formal (e.g. no contractions) and vocabulary should be formal.
    2. Letter to MP: Unlike with my professor, the MP would expect a more emotionally charged tone with word choices that carry specific connotations. Word choices can be more conversational here, but the vocabulary should still be fairly formal.
