Does recognition of expertise improve performance of group decision making? In the world presently many organisations have relied on groups and teams in problem solving and decision making. As stated by Steiner, (1972) in order for these groups to operate at optimal levels then their resources must be coordinated and utilised very efficiently. Hackman, 1987 also adds on to argue that the groups must not only major on acquiring numerous resources but they must ensure that the resources are utilised to the maximum. The resources required include individual skills, knowledge, and competence which are known as proficiency.
