Part A
Modern Cannibals of the Wild” by Basil Johnston
Main Points 代考final exam
The article is about the modern cannibals which are considered exactly like the wild mythical giant wendigoes that used to stalk into the forests. These modern cannibals are the corporation that is more dangerous than the giant wendigoes as their appetite is more wild than the giant wendigoes of the story. The forests that were home to living organisms has now replaced by the giant corporations, multinationals and conglomerate. These corporations are more brutal than the wendigoes that used to prey on humans and eat their flesh to fulfill their appetite. These corporations first started with devouring forests then they start seeing beyond those forests into the future based on money, wealth, bond, profits and luxury.
They chopped the forests with axes and saws. The demand for timber and forest wood increased with time. These contemporary wendigoes are different than their ancestors as they are more omnivorous. The modern wendigoes wear elegant clothes, live in luxury and have dignified respect. These corporations do not take into regard the rights of others. These wendigoes are leading to a scarcity of resources for humanity. They are devastating the environment, zoological and botanical life (JOHNSTON, 1991).
Writing Style
This article posits the comparison between a modern cannibal and the giant wendigoes of the wild myths. The article elaborates how modern cannibals are just like giant wendigoes and how they are more dangerous than giant wendigoes. By modern cannibals, the author means giant corporations, multinationals and conglomerates. Both of these have a common aspect that is a characteristic of being a monster. They eat human flesh to fulfill their appetite. However, they are different because the appetite of modern cannibals that are corporations is never fulfilled. The giant wendigoes are known for eating forest creatures including plants gradually. 代考final exam
Likewise, the corporation has gradually cleaned the forests and natural resources without taking into consideration its detrimental impacts on humanity and generations to come. Both of these cannibals are selfish and self-centered. They have no regard for humanity. The giant wendigoes of today are always behind more and more money, wealth, deposits, etc. They are always hungry which makes them more dangerous than mythical wild giant wendigoes of stories. They are the causes of impairments of lives. They are conspicuously violating human rights. Modern cannibals are different from their forbears because they are omnivorous, unlike giant wendigoes who just lived on human flesh (JOHNSTON, 1991).
“Embraced by the needle” by Gabor Mate
Main Idea 代考final exam
This article is regarding the misconception about drug addiction. It is widely believed that drugs cause substance abuse and emotional pain, however, the truth is addiction emanated from unhappiness and discontent life. Drug addiction does not cause pain, pain leads to drug addiction. Most of the drug addicts found in Downtown Eastside are suffering from mental illness. Also, many of them are HIV positive or having AIDS. It’s their life experience which turns them vulnerable to drugs as our brain development is determined by our emotional and physical interactions. Just like the infant of monkeys and rats who separated from their mothers at a very early age and was unable to control their anxiety and depicted measurable deficiency in the primary neurochemical dopamine.
The common factor among the addicts is the extreme level of stress they encounter in their early childhood. As all the women drug addicts have endured sexual assault in their lives. Many examples are given in the article depicting how the early childhood tragic experienced led individuals to drug addiction. Moreover, it is found that stressed, depressed and anxious parents are having a hard time in emotionally rewarding and endorphin liberating relationships with their children (Mate, 2001).
Writing Style
The writing style adopted in this article is cause and effect. The cause and effect are identified in the article for drug addiction. What causes drug addiction? Whether drug addiction is a cause or an effect? These two questions are addressed in this article. The study has found that drug addiction is not a cause of depression, anxiety, or other mental illnesses. In fact, drug addiction itself is caused by anxiety and depression. The argument is supported by various real-life examples which reflect that troubled childhood or tragic life eventually leads to drug addiction. Many women that are found addicted have a history of sexual assault.
Thus, it is deduced that depression due to tragedies and poor life experiences are actually the cause of drug addiction among individuals across the world. Another strategy employed in the article is comparison. The human being with perturbed childhood is compared with the life of the infants of monkeys and rats. The infants of monkeys and rats that remained distant from their mothers have shown lower natural benzo receptors and deficiency in the neurochemical named dopamine (Mate, 2001).

Academic Response
Cole’s main idea
The main idea of Cole was to highlight the racial issues in Canada. Some stereotyped have been attached to every nation such as Gingers are soulless, blondes are dumb, Asian considered bad drivers, and Jews are greedy. He thought that we are living in a world where people are put into categories according to their race, appearance, culture, and religion. Canada is a country which is known for its diversity. Cole experiences that black people are stereotyped as very dangerous and due to this they are victimized with discrimination, injustices, and prejudice by society. The world shows prejudice to black people by having a preconceived, tainted nation of what they are dangerous. Cole experienced it many times in his life. It is shown when a woman after getting off the bus runs away from him. It was a situation when he resisted the longing to call out in his defense.
Prejudice was also shown when in door-to-door campaigns; one of the houses a girl opened the door, looked at him, and scrammed down the hall. She did not close the door, when her mother came she apologized however he could not tell her who was more embarrassed. Society shows discrimination by isolating blacks from society by dyeing their entrance to carding and bars. Police officers show injustice towards them by treating them harsher than other people, and when Cole and his friends were searched illegally. It should be society’s mission to make sure that racist’ tragedies are found only in history, not in today’s world (Cole, 2015).
Prompt 1 代考final exam
COLE, DESMOND in his article emphasized the racism in today’s world, especially in Canada.
Canada is considered a city of diversity, where people from different nation lives. However, black people face racism in Canada the same as they face in North America. They face prejudice, injustices and discrimination. Cole experienced this racism when he was only nine years old. Cole faced prejudice when a woman runs away after seeing him at a bus stop, then during door-to-door campaigns, a teenage girl bolted down the hallway, and also two girls run away due to his skin. Black people face injustice at every place. They are hired for lower jobs, they are awarded lower than other people, they are punished harsher than other people, dropping out the school and ended up in poverty. They experienced discrimination; even police officers searched them for no reason. In the bars, their entry is banned. In a country like Canada, the term racism or “black” should be removed, because they are also human and have a long-standing history of constant struggle to prove themselves as a decent nation.
All these factors highlighted by Cole in his article depict the importance of studying discrimination at school. Discrimination must be studied in-depth as it is a long-standing social issue.
It is being pervasively found in the contemporary world. The recent killing of George Floyd stirred protests all across North America including Canada. Students must be taught about these issues to understand the perception of society. Discrimination or racism sometimes leads to right-wing extremism whose examples are ubiquitous in North America. We see plenty of incidents regarding mass shootings. The immigration laws are based on the prevalence of racism within the society which the students must be aware of. Most importantly students should be taught about discrimination so that they do not involve in it or practice it themselves. They must know that discrimination is bad and it is not something to practice in real life.
Being a diverse country, students must be taught about discrimination so that they can develop tolerance within themselves at a very early age. They must know to respect other communities despite their race, caste, or skin color. They should be taught about discrimination in order to develop a better society and a vibrant nation. Cole’s article highlights the importance of studying discrimination within the schools (Cole, 2015).
