In this assignment, we have been requested to lay out the Germanic values and beliefs based on the warrior’s ethos, and how well the three Germanic mythologies that will be discussed in this assignment are a good reflection of the values that have already been portrayed.
Primary Values and Beliefs of Old Germanic Warrior 留学paper代写
The primary values and beliefs of the old Germanic warriors clearly shows how much they valued bravery and family. Their loyalty of the chieftain was extremely high and they honored it above all else. According to Tacitus, the Germanic people strongly believed in warfare and were the perfect example of nature, strength, and health. They were beautiful in their looks, and due to their belief systems, they did not exhibit any notion of greed, as for them, gold did not matter; honor, family, loyalty, and the bonds with their clan were what mattered most to them. Many of the men were strong fighters, and they were usually the heads of the family. When these men were not fighting, they would lounge around and rest at home, while the more menial tasks were taken care of by the women, older men and slaves. However, the best thing about these people was their sense of justice.
Valkyries
The Valkyries were dark spirits which acted in Oden’s name, and decided the fate of the warriors who battled without a care in the world, just to make sure that their families and clan were bathed in glory. Many of these people only fought for honor, and when they died on the battlefield, the Valkyries would accompany them to the Valhalla. The Valkyries were considered to be Odin’s shields and maidens who were portrayed as pure and focused on servitude for the men.

The Valhalla on the other hand was a giant hall, with had 500 doors leading up to it, and it was large enough to accommodate thousands and thousands of men and warriors. The interior of Valhalla was adorned with gems and precious metals, whereas, the exterior was made of robust structure that strengthened the walls, and protected the interior with external attacks. What is fascinating to note is that all of these warriors were hand picked by Oden, father of Thor, and the ruler of Asguard, as he believed these warriors to be a way to defeat the evil at Ragnarok.
Ragnarok
Ragnarok was considered to be one the biggest challenges that will be faced by the gods and humanity alike, because it was said to be an apocalypse in which evil prevailed. Oden prepared for this day by selecting the best warriors from the other realm and bringing them to Valhalla and training them, in order to give the gods as well as humanity a fighting chance. According to legend and the Germanic myths, Ragnarok was supposedly the apocalypse, that would end all humanity and evil will be the winner. However, to give themselves a fighting chance, Oden had the Valkyries assemble all the greatest Germanic warriors to help them defeat at least a little bit of the evil that prevailed and to help his son Thor, try to fight off the forces of evil.
The Vikings and Germanic warriors alike were intrigued by Ragnarok and most of them prepared for it, seeing the battlefield as a preparation for the final battle that was Ragnarok.

After overviewing the beliefs of the Germanic warriors and the three pieces of Germanic mythology discussed in above, I feel that the values of the warriors are strongly depicted through these mythologies. They focused on becoming great warriors for the purpose of fighting in the main battle, and their loyalty and dedication allowed them to be the perfect warriors for the realm. Additionally, these beliefs also drove their reason for living. The warriors lived to fight, and for them, fighting on the battlefield was considered to be an honor, and they got a sense of pride. Dying on the battlefield was considered to be the greatest reward they could ask for, and they were overjoyed to have fought and died for their clan, their chieftain, and their families.
All in all, I think that the Germanic beliefs were driven by their beliefs in the Mythology od Oden and Thor. And, the manner in which they lived, which little to no importance of worldly pleasures such as gold, or other riches, shows that they focused more on the war they would be a part of, after death.
